MAIN ATTRACTIONS
Walking Tour
Descend 130 feet below the surface, down 52 stone steps, and experience another world.
Tours last for approximately 90 minutes of slow-paced walking or standing. Parts of the trail can be wet depending on recent rainfall, but the temperature is always a comfortable 68°F. Some ducking may be required — the lowest points are 4’4” and 4’8” — and most tours include a brief lights-out demonstration.
Wild Cave
Experience a wriggling, crawling adventure through the undeveloped lower level. You will get dirty and wet, and have lots of fun!
Guests must be at least 8 years old, in good physical condition, and sign a waiver to participate. The Wild Cave Tour has several narrow passages, which means guests over 52” in girth (shoulders, hips, etc.) can’t participate.
Gemstone Mining
Make memories and discover your own natural treasures in our gemstone mining sluice.
Crack-Your-Own-Geode
Discover glittering crystals hidden inside — and take your one-of-a-kind discovery home.
Blacklight Tour
Step into the shadows and see what others miss. Your lantern and blacklight flashlight reveal the glowing features of “living” rock that are invisible on a standard tour.
This 60-minute tour runs just once each weekend morning at 9:30 AM. Before we turn on the lights. The path is mostly level but dimly lit — watch your step, and prepare to be amazed!

Above Ground Fun: Hiking, Picnic & Parkitecture
Longhorn Cavern State Park is more than a beautiful cavern. Located atop Backbone Ridge, a small chain of beautiful limestone hills, Longhorn Cavern State Park has plenty of activities to fill your day:
- The Civilian Conservation Corps discovered crystals, fossils, and more inside Longhorn Cavern. Make your own discoveries in our gemstones mining sluice.
- Take a leisurely hike along the Backbone Ridge trail system, then enjoy a picnic lunch under an old grove of Hill Country trees.
- Admire the classic “parkitecture” style of our original buildings, constructed in the 1930s by the CCC.
- Take in a 360-degree view of the Texas Hill Country—including the nearby Falkenstein Castle—from the historic CCC Observation Tower.

Longhorn Caverns is a fun day trip to have and a cool respite on a hot day. It has a rich human history and interesting formations. Our tour guide Nikki was wonderful and full of energy, even as her last tour for the day. She had a lot of passion and knowledge for the cavern while keeping our group safe and entertained. Good experience overall. We did the walking tour and our guide was so patient in giving us ample time to walk, take pics (no flash photography) and explain to us in depth. We also spotted a few bats inside the caves. It was overall a very good experience.
5 Star Level!
